• Course Objectives: Teach students to accurately mix highly heavy metal slurries and prepare lightweight substrates to prevent wood warping.
• Learning Outcomes: Calculate high-ratio metal powder suspensions, treat structural substrate backings to prevent moisture bending, and prime panel faces cleanly.
• Tools & Materials: Lightweight MDF/plywood panels; fast-cure epoxy base resins; atomized brass, bronze, copper, and iron powders; high-shear mixers; sanding blocks.
Rules
• Course Rules: The Warping Limitation: Any substrate panel that warps, bends, or cups due to improper backing preparation or uneven resin application will be disqualified from further fabrication steps. Homogeneous Suspension: Metal slurries must show complete, non-clumped particulate suspension before application.
