• Topics Covered: Electric hand-plane calibration; orbital wet/dry sanding grids; organic oil finishing (tung oil, beeswax); steel leg structural mounting; furniture gallery staging and oral defense.
• Course Objectives: Refine raw, chiseled wood structures into high-end, smooth interior furniture art and defend its design logic before a jury.
• Learning Outcomes: Calibrate uneven timber slabs into perfectly level planes, execute an aggregate sanding matrix up to 320 grit, apply protective bio-coatings, and deliver a professional design pitch.
• Tools & Materials: Electric hand planes; orbital sanders; beeswax; pure tung oil; industrial steel furniture legs; large-format cameras; studio lighting.
Rules
• Course Rules: The Structural Equilibrium Metric: The final furniture piece must pass a live load-bearing test; any rocking, uneven legs, or wobbly joints result in a 30% grade deduction. The Anti-Filler Standard: Masking wood splits with plastic wood fillers or epoxy during this final phase is strictly prohibited; all fixes must remain purely mechanical.
